Ab Initio, Volume 1: A Memoir of International Relations in War and Peace
Over the course of a truly remarkable life John Deverill has had a front row seat for some of the most important events in the 20th century. This first volume covers the years 1922 to 1953 - from a vivid portrayal of life in an English boarding school between the wars to gripping accounts of seeking and destroying German U-boats in the North Atlantic. After the war Deverill attended the famous MECAS (Middle East Centre for Arab Studies) in Lebanon, worked for the Red Cross, where he witnessed the plight of Palestinian refugees in the late 1940s, and went on to become the Commander of the Arab Legion Air Force.
