Margrit often felt an outsider in her own family during her formative years. When therefore a hasty marriage takes her and her Chinese husband to Hong Kong, she stands alone when faced with the many challenges which come her way. Owing to some fortunate circumstances, she is able to return to London and is given the chance to meet a group of people who, in pursuit of a spiritual aim, become her closest friends. Her marriage having ended and her mental health having been restored, she soon finds inner fulfilment and personal achievement in her new life.
