Curtis Mayfield made his first recordings in 1958 as a member of a Chicago Soul/R & B group, The Impressions. He was 16, from the Chicago’s notorious Cabrini Green Housing Projects. By 1968 he started Curtom Records and was in control of his recording, song publishing and recording studio.

‘Keep On Keeping On’ contains Curtis’ first four studio albums (Curtis, Roots, Back to the world and Sweet exorcist) REMASTERED and similar to some of his later Impressions work, Mayfield's lyrics reflected the social and political concern rising in black America at the time. Mayfield was one of the earliest artists to speak openly about African-American pride and community struggle.

Leaving the Impressions in 1970, Mayfield forged an equally indelible solo career. Along the way he garnered a host of accolades including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and double induction (solo and group) into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. All four albums reached charting position on Billboards U.S. Top R&B/Hip-Hop Album and Billboard Top 200, with several singles also reaching Billboard status.
