An exploration of the relationships between urban space, urban practices and ideas from a cultural perspective. It introduces key concepts that shape urban cultural practices, drawing on both historical and contemporary examples from around the world. Each chapter focuses on a particular theme within the city, describes one or more approaches to its study, and provides a range of examples to contextualize these approaches. Shorter chapters are interspersed throughout, focusing on particular sites within the city which further illustrate the ideas being developed within the book.
