The fight was fast and furious. "Get out of there! He'll drown you!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. Duke kept pressing the fight, oblivious to my screaming and yelling. It was a fight to the death between him and Truck. Coon hunters had long told stories about how they had lost dogs when a big coon had gotten their dog into deep water. Now I was about to lose my dog. Tears started streaming down my face, my voice choking up as I frantically shouted at Duke. This old coon was clever and he was slowly working Duke out into deeper water, where he would have all the advantage. A dog doesn't stand a chance against a big coon in deep water, because old Ringtail can hold his breath longer underwater. He will climb up on the dog's head or grab him by the ear and hold the dog under water until he drowns.
