The rationale for writing this book about children comes from the author's own experience working on the helpline for the National Association for Gifted Children where most of the calls relate to children between the ages of three and eight, and the peak ages are four to five. This is an age group in which problems are encountered by many parents as well as schools and nurseries, and so it is important to address the needs of very young children at an age when it is still possible to make a real and lasting difference.
