The 3rd Istanbul Design Biennial explores the intimate relationship between the concepts of "design" and the "human." Design always presents itself as serving the human but its real ambition is to re- design the human. To talk about design is to talk about the state of our species. Humans have al- ways been radically reshaped by the designs they produce and the world of design keeps expand- ing. This book gathers an international array of over seventy-five architects, designers, artists, archeologists, historians, and scientists who have responded to the subject.The result is a multi-dimensional documentary about the state of design today, when everyday real- ity has outpaced science fiction. It places the extreme condition of contemporary design in the context of the history of humanity.
