Clinical neuropsychology and neuro-rehabilitation are disciplines that have truly developed at a phenomenal pace over the last couple of decades. Practitioners have had to make a continued commitment to staying up to date. There are many exciting theoretical, clinical and technological developments within the field. However, central to all of these remains the issue of working with persons who have experienced an extreme, life-changing experience. Often persons struggle to make sense of a traumatic brain injury and live life as it is for them now. Because of improved acute medical care, there are more survivors of traumatic brain injury today than ever before. Traumatic brain injury and the resulting disability constitute a major loss for the individual. Assisting persons with coming to terms with the changes after traumatic brain injury is probably one of the essential tasks in many rehabilitation programs taking a longer-term view regarding outcome.
