These 29 labs run Cisco IOS software on a core, platform-independent software feature set specially compiled to run as a Unix process. These processes communicate with each other to build a network of routers and switches, all the while sharing protocol, data and state information like real routers and switches. The labs are platform-agnostic — they do not contain hardware-specific features such as a VPN encryption card, voice ports or other items that would be platform specific.
Detailed instruction
Each lab consists of a series of tasks and detailed steps for each lab exercise. A schematic of the lab topology is included, as well, and students can copy, save and print directions and topologies.
Supplemental learning content
The labs contain definitions of networking terms, hints and explanations of commands. Also included is a table of commands, along with an explanation of commands. Each lab also has challenge questions to highlight key concepts from the lesson in the book.
