Daniel Clapsaddle Carvel's sons and daughters tried to persuade him to remodel these memoirs of his grandfather into a latter day romance. He thought it wiser to leave them as they were written. Albeit they contain some details not of interest to the general public, but Churchill's notion is that such imperfections as these lend to them the reality they bear. Certain it is, when reading them, one will live Carvel's life again. Illustrated.
