Powis Castle in Wales is home to an outstanding collection of portraits. Most depict members of the Herbert family who have lived in the house for over 400 years. House of Portraits explores how they used their image to command respect, make a glamorous impact and express what they cared about most.

At the heart of the collection is Isaac Oliver's exquisite miniature of Edward, Lord Herbert of Cherbury, which the National Trust secured for the nation with the help of the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the Art Fund, the late Hon. Simon Sainsbury, Winifred Hooper and our members and supporters.
