Spaces of Neoliberalism - Land, Place and Family in Latin America
This inter-disciplinary book addresses how neoliberal policies have influenced the politics and culture of land, territory, place, and households in Latin America. The contributors to this contemporary volume probe the often-ignored spatial aspects of neoliberalism itself. Neoliberal policies propose the decentralization of politics and finance to municipalities, while inviting global actors to play increasingly important market roles in third world economies. The book emphasizes how ordinary people are actively redefining economic meaning and practices by asserting their rights to land and community. The contributors break through conventional analyses based on economic and national interests by bringing in new cultural and political perspectives on neoliberalism, recognizing the overlap with economics of disciplines such as geography, political science, and anthropology.
