Retired gangster Harry Peck agreed to give evidence against former associates. Now he has a contract on his life. In a witness protection programme he finds himself guarded by an emotionally vulnerable policewoman who has problems of her own - Alexandra Shaw's personal life is heading nowhere, and her career is overshadowed by the murder of a young delinquent, Shaun Barrett. Accompanying Peck into hiding is his senile mother - Lilly Peck lives in the past, but these new surroundings prompt suppressed memories about Harry's childhood. When Harry searches for information he is targeted by Eddie Spencer, a neo-fascist thug and step-father of the murdered delinquent.
