These four songs are settings of texts by the Sicilian poet Quasimodo (1901-68). They are the start of a much bigger cycle of ten songs that is a long-standing project for the composer. Various images of nature and folk traditions are an important part of the text, and Causton's music explores this relationship between the individual and his surroundings.
