Mercury cadmium telluride (MCT) is the main material for infra-red detectors in both military and civilian applications. This text provides an updated review of its properties, exploring various devices and analyzing a range of cadmium-based materials used both with MCT and independently with solar cells, optoelectronic components and X-ray detectors.
