The need for cross-cultural research is growing in every segment of the modern world. Studies are needed among countries to foster greater understanding of cultural differences and within countries where subcultures exist. Any society would be more viable if divergent groups pent more time trying to understand one another then trying to dismantle each other. Understanding promotes more cooperation among different groups and more stability. These are essential ingredients that are needed for prosperity. Consequently, cross-cultural studies are needed within countries to promote understanding and between countries where misunderstandings often lead to conflict.
Cross-cultural Research: Basic Issues, Dilemmas, and Strategies provide a comprehensive view on the basic issues, dilemmas, and strategies used in current cross-cultural research. The book discusses these themes with concrete examples from the ongoing “Academic Olympians”-research project. The project has faced all the issues and dilemmas discussed the book. The authors have been able to combine the theoretical and methodological aspects related to cross-cultural research with the concrete questions of developing valid instruments and analyzing data from different cultural environments.
