Responding to a growing interest in the nature and place of family in society, this text looks at gender, marriage, families, family relationships, and the role of larger kin groups from a cross-cultural perspective. It draws upon ethnographic accounts and cross-cultural studies to illustrate and discuss possible cause and consequences.
