When Princess Tawny Tabreez a year earlier founded the Juniors Division of the Galactic Service, Tawny had no idea that GS Junior Dipperson Kiddwell, during rocketry practice at Thunderbolt, would accidentally blast a passing comet. The bigger surprise would be the comet's contents, the foolhardily bioengineered GALOOT. Scientists 500 years earlier, aspiring to gene-splice a versatile creature to spare humanity from risky missions, had instead crafted a foe that would atomize them and 800,000 reckless hunters across the ensuing centuries. Then ten years ago five brave GS Operators, led by Davy Crawford, lured the berserk mutator into a snow nebula and neutralized it within kilometers-thick ice. Yes, the very iceball Dipperson's rocket just vaporized. Taking responsibility for the GALOOT's freedom, Dipperson launches an impossible quest to kill it. Toward that end the teenager confronts a fellow GS Junior, faulty machinery, GALOOT zealots, and an obsessive and kissy teenage girl.
