Drawing together research on gender, work and development to explore ideologies and structures that limit women's participation in work, this book highlights women's responses and initiatives. The author emphasizes that the concept of work should include not only paid labour but all of those activities which contribute to production and development. Defining work in the broadest sense, she considers issues that affect women's productive and reproductive work; the global labour force and industrialization; schooling and training; international labour standards; and how international action can help women to secure their rights.
