It's1913, and Lily's middle-class Melbourne life is upended when she falls for a young stablehand and falls pregnant. Lily's parents disown her and she and her new husband Bert live in simple circumstances. When the war begins, Bert is sent to the front. After he returns home, Lily has to face the most momentous decision of her life.
