1993 BROADCAST RECORDING BY THE BOSS & HIS ALTERNATIVE TROUP
Following the simultaneous release of his albums Human Touch and Lucky Town in early 1992, the boss embarked on his first non-E Street Band tour. The shows performed were not as commercially or critically successful as past jaunts, partly due to the poor reception received by the two recent records. Fans informally referred to the new backing band as "the Other Band" (and the tour as "The Other Band Tour"), which was made up of just one former E-Street member: keyboardist Roy Bittan. Elsewhere, Shane Fontayne played guitar, Tommy Sims was on bass, and Zachary Alford on drums.
The third leg of the tour, starting in March 1993, concentrated on shows in Western Europe, and on 11th April the band played at Verona, Italy’s Stadio Marc' Antonio Bentegodi for a huge outdoor gig which was the subject of a live broadcast on FM radio across Europe and North America.
Performing a superb selection of songs from across Springsteen’s back catalogue, as well as cuts from his new records and an awesome cover of John Fogerty’s ‘Rockin’ All Over The World’ - acknowledgement perhaps of the reach of the transmission - this recording reveals a band every bit as comfortable and dynamic performing with the boss as his regular group usually were..
