Tall Tales and True - India, Histography & British Imperial Imaginings
This book presents new ways of considering colonial India by re-examining eight emblematic stories. The structure of the collection is modelled on the dominant imperial narrative -- not in order to replicate it but to demonstrate how it can be challenged or undermined. The book concludes with an examination of the life of Madan Mohan Malaviya, an ambiguous figure who has been difficult to place in conventional narratives of Indian nationalism.
