The Culture of Prevention - The Art and Science of Promoting Healthy Child Development
Prevention is a relatively new area in the social sciences. This book is the first to describe what research shows about preventing ten pressing problems affecting today's youth: early developmental delays, childhood injuries, obesity, child maltreatment, risky sexual behavior, delinquency and substance abuse, youth violence, negative consequences of marital conflict and divorce, mental disorders, and domestic violence. This book, which focuses on prevention rather than intervention, is the first synthesis of accomplishments and methodological approaches affecting multiple problems. Each chapter will begin with a review of the major prevention projects in that domain, move to a discussion of the projects, and how well they accomplished their goals, and conclude with a description of the best practices in community settings.
