Plaiting tells the story of a little girl who struggles daily with her perception of having a 'sombrero' hair, or 'bed hair'. She has difficulty in keeping her curly, tiny plaits, and 'bushy' hair under control. Just keeping it 'flat and smooth' and 'in place', became her daily wish, and she hoped that it would come true. Plaiting shows that little girl embracing her hair, and all the things that makes it so beautiful, personal and unique. The story also explores deeper issues around self image, self worth, cultural awareness, and perception of others.
