The Life of Jesus the Christ: Volume II
This is volume two of a two volume set. Volume two is subtitled: Later Scenes. From the preface of Volume One: "I have undertaken to write a Life of Jesus, the Christ, in the hope of inspiring a deeper interest in the noble Personage of whom those matchless histories, the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, are the chief authentic memorials. I have endeavored to present scenes that occurred two thousand years ago as they would appear to modern eyes if the events had taken place in our day." Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887) was a great preacher, abolitionist, and reformer. He was the brother of Harriet Beecher Stowe. From 1847 he reached to entranced congregations (sometimes including Walt Whitman) at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Brooklyn, New York.
