As medical research continues at a rapid pace there is an increasing need for a balance between the parts of medicine; a new comprehension of the needs of society; and the encouragement of co-operation between the different parts of the healing professions. Eminent professionals from the field of medicine, both in practice and in academic circles, have contributed their disparate thoughts on various aspects of this current situation, presenting both the triumphs and shortcomings of modern bioscience.
