Chris and her husband, Chris (AKA Chris Twice), started their surveyor's business in London, 'Site surveying, drawing plans, rescuing hostages and solving crimes'. Chris tells of the establishment and growth of the business, including the perils of working for the cartoonishly sinister Mr Gold, the suspected murder of another surveyor and the joys and disasters of running their own company. Their attempt to employ a new surveyor: "I can't actually draw houses but I'm willing to learn ..." is a joy. Their children are absorbed into the business, working and learning with their parents. With an assortment of friends - the comical Denny, dark horse David and ambitious Mrs Chin, Chris offers snapshots of a fun and chaotic lifestyle, attending a wedding in the wrong country, dealing with the sometimes ludicrous rules of local authorities and insurers and the expectations of clients, some of whom paid their fees in anything but cash.
