Dr Jayanta Bagchi was a distinguished member of the Indian Administrative Services and held several important positions. He was also awarded Padmashree for his meritorious services in 1973. The author has served important functions in the Government of India and retired as Secretary of the Ministry of Steel. His experience comprises of over 15 years in various ministries, including Commerce, Textiles and Steel. He has travelled widely and worked on important assignments in FAO, ESCAP, ITC, and UNCTAD. In this book, efforts have been made to present the various experiences that he gained as Sub Divisional Officer, Dev. Commissioner in the State of Assam/Meghalaya, Joint Secretary in the Government of India, Additional Secretary, Chairman, STC and Designated Authority for Anti-Dumping. This autobiography is a brief document drawn up to capture the personality of Dr. Bagchi from his youth in Calcutta until his entry into the Indian Administrative Services and onwards. His autobiography will hopefully inspire those planning out their path in life.
