This is an account of the work of the Nigerian Administrative Service from the 1930s to the transfer of power. The author served the Western Region from 1938 to 1959, rising from assistant district officer to Minister of Education. The book deals with various aspects of a colonial officer's life, from dealing with witchcraft to setting up a television service, and provides some insights into the role and aims of colonists and their relations with Nigerian politicians.
