What price friendship? Detective Constable Andy Gregg is security officer for Kent County CID, and takes his responsibilities, which include conducting security surveys for vulnerable premises, very seriously. But when Querry Brade, a late fifteenth-century manor house, full to bursting with priceless antiques, is broken into just five days after Andy's most recent survey, tongues start wagging. Worse: the burglars seemed to know exactly where the safe was and how to bypass the outmoded security system. And then there's another break-in - this time at a supermarket, again where Gregg had just performed a security assessment. And this time, a policeman is killed when he intercepts the criminals fleeing the scene.Suddenly Gregg's superiors are faced with the very real possibility that someone inside CID is selling privileged information - something the ever-loyal Andy refuses to believe. But all Gregg's reports are securely encrypted, and only he knows the passwords to his computer.
With her all-too-trusting husband reluctant to see the wood for the trees, it's down to heavily pregnant Wendy Gregg to try and figure out who could have betrayed Andy's trust, with near-fatal consequences.
