Jake Arnott changes direction somewhat from "The Long Firm, He Kills Coppers" etc with this new historical novel which focuses on two controversial figures from the turn of the 19th/20th centuries: Major General Sir Hector Macdonald, one of the great heroes of the British Empire facing ruin amid a homosexual scandal, and Aleister Crowley, the notorious occultist.
