This story is the most complete story on the plague known as "The Black Death". Born Justus Friedrich Karl Hecker (5 January 1795, in Erfurt - 11 May 1850, in Berlin) was a German physician and medical writer. He extensively studied disease in relation to human history, including plague, smallpox, infant mortality, dancing mania and the sweating sickness, and is often said to have founded the study of the history of disease.

Hecker included in his work the original instructions from the physicians who were attempting to save lives during the Black Plague. Those physician notes are included in the book. This book goes into detail on some of the radical decisions made in the world during the Black Plague.
The Black Death, was the most fatal pandemic recorded in human history, resulting in the deaths of up to 75-200 million from 1347 to 1351.
