In recent years there have been many advances in the understanding of the nuclear structure and dynamics in the extreme conditions of spin (high angular momentum states), isospin (drip line nuclei) and mass (super heavy elements). There are new challenges in the synthesis and study of nuclei far away from the beta-stability region.
