In line with KS3 National Tests, this scheme aims to help students understand conventions of text types and how to write about texts; to equip students with skills needed for the five reading foci to be tested; give students practice in applying those skills; and provide guidance on the tests.

• Section A helps students understand conventions of text types and how to write about texts
• Section B equips students with a range of reading skills, based around the five reading assessment focuses
• Section C gives students practice in applying those skills to a wide range of text types
• Section D provides guidance on the tests and two complete practice tests so that students can approach the tests with understanding and confidence
