This volume completes the publication of the papers presented at the First International Langland Conference held at Cambridge in 1993, containing the discussion papers together with the responses (the plenary addresses were included in Yearbookof Langland Studies 8). Also of particular interest is a new `forum' section answering previous criticism, making for an exceptionally lively issue which conveys the vitality of current debates in Piers Plowmanstudies. Reviews of recent related publications and a bibliography are also included. JOHN A. ALFORD teaches at the Department of English, Michigan State University; JAMES A. SIMPSON is at Girton College, Cambridge. Contributors: JOHN A. ALFORD, RICHARD BARNES, HELEN BARR, JOHN BOWERS, MARY CARRUTHERS, WENDY SCASE, LAWRENCE M. CLOPPER, SAMUEL A. OVERSTREET, JUDITH H.
