This annual report details the ongoing work from the Committee on Publication Ethics, which has considered and advised on numerous cases of publication and research misconduct. Topics covered include how editors should deal with publication misconduct, whether there is a place for editorial sanctions, and work that is being done by the General Medical Council and the Royal College of Physicians to combat research misconduct. Integral to the report are Guidelines on Good Publication Practice. These will be widely endorsed by the scientific community throughout the UK, ensuring uniformity of approach, and offering some much needed guidance on how to tackle the pervasive problem of research fraud and misconduct
