Travel Story is a lovely romp across the Mexican border's harsh geography. It features writer Eliot Elcomedor's desire to leave the Big City and decelerate in a place perhaps a bit more laidback. He settles into an economic hotel, one whose management just can't get the hot water setting on the building's boiler just right. Still, he has his pick of great Tex-Mex cafes and cheap cantinas, which alone would please and man on the move. Only, he has met the Mexican acrobat Maria Cristina and, well, that thing about deceleration takes an expected whipping. The affair is doomed, but it's not like the world cares. Eliot's novel, however, is not going well. He's drinking again...
