Franco Fontana (born 9 December 1933) is an Italian photographer. He is best known for his abstract colour landscapes.
Franco Fontana is very well known for his landscape photography. This new book focuses on his work looking at the American Metropolis, from his various trips to the USA from 1985 to 2001.
The subject of the American metropolis accompanied by its inevitable urban tumult seemed to go against the coherence of his previous work with beautiful lines and neat chromatic tones but they have a lot in common: His American are undeniably imprinted with his 'Italianity', with the taste for harmony and geometric balance of the Renaissance fathers. The colourful stripes of the landscapes of the past here become staged plans. The choice of the overall plan makes the characters sketched silhouettes more than individualities.
