Crofton and Douglas's
Respiratory Diseases was first published in 1969 and has established itself as one of the major international textbooks on the subject. This fourth edition has now been completely rewritten by its three new authors to take account of the many changes in the science and practice of respiratory medicine over the last decade. While the general format of previous editions has been maintained, the book incorporates many changes. Each chapter is illustrated with photographs of radiographs and histopathology and with line drawings. New chapters have been added, including ones on lung development and structure, pharmacology of respiratory drugs, clinical and radiological problems, diagnostic procedures, cystic fibrosis, drug-induced disease, disease in the immunocompromised host, lung effects of systemic (and genetic) disease, and terminal care. All other chapters have been rewritten and reference made throughout to recent literature. The book has been written by clinicians for clinicians, with due emphasis on the fundamental and scientific basis of our understanding of respiratory disease and management. It should prove useful to all doctors with an interest in this important and expanding specialty
