Diseases of Vegetable Crops and Their Integrated Management:A Colour Handbook
Vegetables serve as an essential source of vital nutrients, including dietary fibers, minerals, antioxidants, and vitamins. The growing awareness of their medicinal and nutritional value has led to increased production worldwide, with China currently ranked as the top producer, at approximately 237 million tons. India's vegetable production for the year 2009-10 was approximately 90 million tons. Although pesticides can be valuable tools in sustainable vegetable production, their irresponsible use often poses hazards to producers, consumers, and the environment. Furthermore, their excessive use can lead to pest and disease resistance, as well as the suppression of natural biological control mechanisms. This book aims to promote the integration of appropriate chemical, cultural, physical, genetic, and biological technologies into IPM strategies for vegetable crop protection.
