This study was part of an exercise to construct land use change scenarios for
Europe within the European Commission funded ATEAM (Advanced Terrestrial
Ecosystem Analysis and Modelling) project. The purpose of the study was to
examine land use changes as they relate to forests, their trends and forest
policies in the pre-enlargement European Union member countries and
Switzerland and Norway, and to construct preliminary estimates and narratives
of future trends in forest land use associated with the Intergovernmental
Panel of Climate Change (IPCC) SRES-senarios.
