This report sets out a new points system for assessing the conservation value of wetland birdlife. The system has been designed to replace a previously used points-rating system, to meet the need for an improved tool for application in the protection and monitoring of bird wetlands. The new system also facilitates the calculations used to evaluate and compare bird wetlands. Values can be calculated for species nesting or feeding in wetlands during the breeding season, for the birds visiting on migration or present during the moulting season, and for the overall value of a wetland in conservation terms on a points scale.
