The postmodern zeitgeist is characterized by the fact that overarching ideologies and wide-ranging concepts are no longer valid - this also applies to family ideas: what is a real family? Who is one of them? Which family forms promote development, which not? At the same time, the longing for family seems deeply rooted in our hearts, we let ourselves be enchanted by the myth of the ideal family. This tension between factual family diversity and fragmentation on the one hand, and the desire for a healthy, healing family, on the other, always poses great challenges for psychotherapeutic practice. In this volume, these challenges are considered in introductory articles on family sociology and politics, cultural studies, the humanities, and family therapy. They are also examined against the background of the following subject areas: - the family in the age of their technical reproducibility; Children of mentally ill parents; Multiculturalism and family; Children in family court proceedings; Families in psychotherapy - strategies and concepts from four perspectives. A final fictional contribution from a family festival in the summer of 2020 rounds off the book.
