Neoplastic Mimics in Soft Tissue and Bone Pathology Virtually all sites in the human body can host lesions that simulate neoplasms, and many of these "pseudotumors" can simulate neoplasms on all levels of analysis - clinical, radiologic, and pathologic - thus they represent particular diagnostic pitfalls for the pathologist that can ultimately lead to therapeutic misdirection. This book provides the pathologist with detailed morphologic descriptions and diagnostic guidance in recognizing these neoplastic mimics as they occur in soft tissue and breast pathology.
Coverage is fully comprehensive and is organized based on differentiation-type. Each lesion and neoplasm will include a brief discussion of clinical features, description of histologic features, differential diagnosis, and appropriate ancillary studies. In addition to coverage of the full range of mimics occurring in soft tissue lesions, including infectious lesions, there are chapters covering osseous lesions and chondroid lesions.
Throughout the book, descriptions and diagnostic guidance are provided for the range of lesions in these areas that may mimic benign masses but are in fact neoplastic. This analysis of diagnostic mimics guides the pathologist through recognizing and distinguishing the unusual variants, morphologic anomalies and misleading features that may easily lead to an inaccurate interpretation and missed diagnosis. The book emphasizes imaging and clinical correlations throughout to support the pathologist as consultant to the diagnostic and clinical management team. Text descriptions and concise and specific and the book is extensively illustrated in ""atlas"" style for easy use as a visual reference. Every pathologist who sees soft tissue and bone cases will find this book a valuable working tool to ensure accurate diagnosis.
