This is an insightful exploration of the unabashedly controversial and overtly political work of Polish artist Artur Zmijewski. In his films and videos, Polish artist, filmmaker and photographer Artur Zmijewski (1966-) addresses issues of racism, national identity, religious ostracism and the clash of ideologies. This volume centres on two essays that explore and critically appraise several of Zmijewski's recent works - including his major Berlin-staged video installation, "Democracies" (2009), which records mass gatherings and protests throughout Europe and the Middle East.
