Not only since the great success of the new edition of "The Wellerman" by Nathan Evans, which recently became widespread, especially on social media, shanties and seasongs have enjoyed great popularity. These songs bring a unique mood, a touch of adventure and the wanderlust for the big, wide world. Hardly anyone can resist this and with Vahid Matejko's shanty play-alongs there are now the most beautiful shanties and seasongs skilfully arranged as play-alongs for many different instruments.
The diverse arrangements cover a wide range of styles and offer echoes of rock, latin, funk, big band and even orchestral and Caribbean influences. Each song has its own musical and instrumental appeal, which is also helped by the specially composed parts and/or solos. The polyphonic choral singing – of the originally sung shanties – is replaced by polyphonic instrumental backings, which (like the rest of the recordings) were all recorded live by excellent professional musicians.
