Tuija Lindström A Dream If Ever There Was One A unique book with the pioneering works of Tuija Lindström
Tuija Lindström is one of Swedens foremost photographic artists. This is the first book in a series covering her work from 1980 until today. Many of the images in the book were shot during the 1980s while she was studying at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design. This is the period from which the foundation of her work stems, all of her enthralling and impressing work can be traced back to this period. Tuija Lindström was inspired and fascinated by photographys characteristics and the almost alchemical darkroom work. It was a period of experimentation and curiosity, using the opportunities offered by analogue techniques she conducted a creative investigation in classical photographic themes: landscapes, portraits, nudes and still lives. Collected and presented together the images also highlight Tuija Lindström importance for and influence on Swedish art photography.
Tuija Lindström was born in 1950 in Finland and has been based in Sweden since 1975. Between 1992 and 2002, Tuija Lindström was Swedens first female professor in photography at the then School of Photography and Film at the University of Gothenburg. During her artistic leadership, a masters programme was established and the foundations laid for the institutions current photographic research.
The book is published in conjunction with the exhibition at Hasselblad Foundation in Gothenburg, August 25 October 14 2012, curated by Dragana Vujanovic.
