For UK employers and their advisers, the changes to the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 1981 (TUPE), to be introduced in 2006, have been eagerly awaited. These changes follow extensive consultation and will usher in a new regime to govern the rights of employees on a takeover or merger of the business which employs them.
