This is the outcome of an intense debate between the authors - Heller, an Israeli and Nusseibeh, a Palestinian - which resulted in the joint blueprint for a two-state settlement of Arab/Israeli troubles offered here. Among the topics addressed are security arrangements, refugees and Jewish settlements. In the two concluding chapters, the authors show that a durable peace settlement depends upon definitive peace agreements between Israel and the Arab states, and they outline ways in which all the elements of Arab/Israeli peace should be implemented. Though not able to agree on every detail, these two authors nevertheless have been able to demonstrate that a two-state settlement is both possible and necessary for peace between Israel and the Arab world.
