Consequently,thelikelihoodisthatWebapplication developmentwillgetintoacrisisanditisnothardtoimaginethatthiswould dwarfthe'softwarecrisis'identi?edlongagointhe1960s. WebEngineeringaimstoavertthispotentialcrisisbygeneratingaproactive approachtothesuccessfuldevelopmentofWeb-basedsystemsandapplications. WebEngineeringinvolvestheuseofscienti?c,engineering,andmanagement principlesandsystematicapproacheswiththeaimofsuccessfullydeveloping, deploying,andmaintaininghighqualityWeb-basedsystemsandapplications. WebEngineering,initscurrentform,isanearlyattempttoidentifythes- ni?cantissuesandproblems,andtheirsolutions,indevelopingWeb-basedapp- cations.

AnotherworkshopisscheduledforWWW10inHongKong inMay2001. Themainpurposebehindtheseworkshopshasbeentoshareandpoolthe collectiveexperienceofpeople,bothacademicsandpractitioners,whoare- tivelyworkingonWeb-basedsystems.
